The City of Canning is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Horticultural Apprentice to join our Parks and Natural Areas teams. This is an excellent opportunity to build a career in amenity horticulture while contributing to the development and maintenance of our beautiful parks, streetscapes, and natural spaces.
About the RoleAs a Horticultural Apprentice, you will learn and assist in the establishment, care, and maintenance of parks and landscaped areas across the City. You will gain hands-on experience supported by formal training, working alongside experienced team members in a variety of horticultural disciplines.
Your work will include:
Turf mowing using walk-behind, ride-on, and out-front mowers
General turf maintenance including fertilising, top dressing and turfing
General planting, plant care, and basic tree maintenance
Manual weed control and minor herbicide use
Pruning, clean-up, and rubbish removal
Daily equipment checks and minor maintenance
Supporting maintenance teams across Parks, Streetscapes, Irrigation, Playground, Golf Course, and Natural Areas
You will also attend TAFE as required and maintain a daily training diary to support your apprenticeship progress.
About YouWe are looking for someone who is eager to learn and passionate about horticulture. You will have:
Essential:
A genuine interest in amenity horticulture
Completion of Year 10, 11 or 12
Ability to identify major plant families
Basic understanding of small motors and equipment
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Sound literacy and numeracy
Current satisfactory National Police Clearance
Desirable:
C Class Driver’s Licence
Completion of any horticulture units in a formal setting
